Jim was born November 7, 1952, to Victoria and Jim Hataway whom both have preceded him in death. After graduating from Shawnee Mission Northwest high school, he enlisted in the US Navy to serve in the Vietnam war. During his service years of 1972-1975, one of the ships was aboard the USS Guadalupe. Upon an honorable discharge from the Navy, he came back home to look for a job. Ever since he was a little boy, he wanted to build cars. That dream came true when he was hired at the General Motors Leeds plant in KCMO. He got to live that dream for almost 11 years until they started to close that plant.
On December 3, 1983, he married his true soulmate, Janet Lee Oakes. Besides his wife Janet, he leaves his sister, Pamela Hook of HI, his brother-in-law, Dr. Brad Hook of Hi; his sister-in-law, Debbie Oakes of Overland Park, Ks; nephews, nieces, grand nephews and nieces, a brother, family and friends. His much- loved fur babies: Wannie and Zakie.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jaswinder Singh and all his wonderful staff. Also thanks to all the wonderful staff at Kindred Hospice.
